Shpa·la

/ Shpə'lə/

noun (Russian)

A railroad tie or sleeper. Any elongated wooden, metal, or stone piece for a sill or footing.

informal

1. An offensive term frequently used to tease a tall girl; similar to calling someone a "stick" or "giraffe."

We wanted our brand name to make a statement.  By reclaiming an offensive term, we are sending a clear message: be yourself no matter what others say. Embrace your height. Be a #ShpalaGirl.

The Brand to Inspire a Movement

We are proud to dress tall women, to help empower them, and always consider their height a superiority, not a disadvantage. While we want to continue growing, what's most important to us as a brand is the bigger picture: creating positive change in the fashion industry and prompting other producers and retailers to address the needs of the tall fashion community.

Hear it from Our Founder

Hear it from Our Founder

Inna Panchuk is the Founder and Creative Director of Shpala. She is 6’2’’ and has experienced firsthand the challenges of being tall and shopping for clothes that fit properly.

Born and raised in the Russian Far East, Inna moved to the US for college. While pursuing her bachelor’s and graduate degrees in California, she developed a fascination with the fashion world. Once she relocated to New York City, she was immediately swept away by the whirlwind of vibrant style and self-expression.

She saw the tall women that surrounded her on a daily basis and the lack of clothing options for them. Despite a few specialized brands and established labels carrying some options, she realized the increasing discrepancy between supply and demand within the tall fashion sector. It was time for a change.

Inna strongly believes that tall women deserve access to high-quality apparel, and the fashion industry needs to acknowledge the existence of the tall niche. She started Shpala in 2016 to drive this change.
